Cat. It’s what’s for dinner.

28 Aug

Oliver's coat is luxurious after being marinated in oil.

Gary Korkuc, a 51-year-old New Yorker, was arrested Sunday when police found a four-year-old cat named Oliver “marinating” in the trunk of his car. The live cat was covered in oil and peppers. Gary told police that he was, indeed, going to eat the cat. Here’s the story.

Hmmm.

I don’t know what cat tastes like (never will) and I’m not here to say that it’s weird to eat cat meat. I mean, in some countries it’s normal to eat dog. It just depends on the culture. It just so happens that it’s completely bizarre for people to eat cats in the United States. Mr. Korkuc, after moving to a different country, might share a meal of cat with authorities. I haven’t a clue.

Apparently, Gary had merely slathered the live cat with his oily mixture. It’s been six years since I gave up meat, but I do remember the marinating process, vaguely. I know for certain I never once marinated a live cow, chicken, or pig. In fact, I always made sure the animal was good and dead. I don’t see it working well otherwise. Wouldn’t the oil just soak into the cat’s skin which would not be eaten anyway. I mean, if you’re going to eat a cat, it would have to be skinned first, right?

What kind of oil would one use when marinating a live cat? Wesson oil? Or maybe he went with a high quality extra virgin olive oil.

Luckily, the cat was in good health and has already found a new home.
