Eco-friendly hauling

27 Jul

Chloe and I hauled home two office chairs, a box fan, a couple of books, and a new messenger bag from the Goodwill store on a recent Saturday. People in their vehicles stared, smiled and pointed as we trekked through a busy Edwardsville. Obviously, it’s not common around here to see cargo moved around by bike. All I can do is show people what’s possible. In more progressive areas, like Boulder, CO., moving by bike is becoming more common. By “moving” I mean transferring all one’s possessions from one residence to another. Wow.

Earlier, on our way from Starbucks to Goodwill, I guess I forgot I was pulling a trailer when navigating from a crosswalk to a sidewalk and I hit the curb and dumped the trailer on its side and dragged it about 10 feet. Chloe was behind me, she yelled “Daddyyyy” in a way that asked “What the hell are you doing?” She was already off her bike when I turned around. I told her it was a good thing Ainsley wasn’t in there and we laughed as we turned it upright and headed on.

Later that day, I finished turning the child trailer into a flatbed cargo trailer with a piece of plywood.

We’re careful. I think it’s safer than driving.

    Hey there,
Nice work Dude. I live in Alaska and pedal my ass all over town. Summer and winter, got studs. I have never owned a car, and have no DL, just a state ID card.

So keep on riding and writing. You are not alone 🙂

It sure seems like I’m alone, but you, wow, that is truly impressive. Thanks for the encouragement!
